History of Curves International
Founders Gary and Diane Heavin, committed veterans of the fitness and advertising industries, are the innovators of the women-only express fitness phenomenon that has made exercise available to more than 4 million women worldwide. Sharing a passion and commitment to women’s health and fitness, the Heavins opened the first Curves in 1992 in Harlingen, Texas. Their innovative, 30-minute fitness concept combined strength training and sustained cardiovascular activity through safe and effective hydraulic resistance. The club was an overnight success, as it gave women a supportive and comfortable atmosphere in which to work out. In fact, the company’s unofficial motto became “no makeup, no men, and no mirrors”.
Fast forward to today, and more than 4,000 Curves clubs are found in over 90 countries around the world, becoming the largest fitness center franchise of all time. Here in Asia, our community of over 2,000 clubs serves it members in Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines. In 2018 the community will witness our first Curves clubs opening here in Indonesia.
Curves Indonesia
Under their Unity Brands company, founders Kimberly and Brendon McQueen bring their 15-year Curves history with them, spanning the globe with Curves development and management. Starting as successful, award winning Curves in the USA, then assisting Gary Heavin as Director of Asian Development, going on to help establish Curves in Japan (2005), Korea (2007) and China (2009), while directing business operations in Australia and New Zealand (2008). After creating the most profitable segments of Curves International’s global portfolio, Unity Brands was established to purchase and develop the master franchise licenses for Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore and recently Indonesia.
We have chosen Bandung City, West Java, for our first series of clubs in Indonesia. Together Brendon, Kimberly and our dedicated Asian support team have an ambitious plan to establish Curves clubs in all major cities throughout Indonesia in the next 5 years.
We are currently preparing our first club opening. Thus, we seek passionate women to join our company and help us open Curves clubs; clubs created by women and for women. Curves clubs are not ordinary or traditional fitness clubs, we are unique as we care about Indonesian women and we will care for our women employees just like our family. We will strengthen Indonesian women and community through many activities and charities. Examples of our charities would be our Annual Food Drive and Annual Breast Cancer Charitable Activities.
Our first club location in Bandung is located at Jl. Surya Sumantri No. 76, 2nd Floor, Bandung 40164 (on top of Starbucks Surya Sumantri). More club locations will open in Bandung, and then in other cities all around Indonesia. Wait for our clubs in your nearest locations.
